With the major Brad Pitt movie adaptation of this classic zombie novel approaching ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EC7P5WdUko ) I thought I'd see what the fuss was about. It's a much more serious, plausible and compelling book than I expected. It's presented as material deleted from the author's official report on events around The Zombie War, which has apparently taken place some 12 years before, and all but devastated the human race. The Walking Plague, as it's also called, started in China, and quickly spread like a pandemic, engulfing the entire planet into terrible, all-out war. The book is interviews with survivors, who describe their experiences, the responses of governments and armies, the human race's desperate attempts to survive. It sounds kind-of silly, but it's a compelling narrative, and almost believable. I can see why this has ebecome a classic of its kind.
